Sequoia trees are survivors.

A sequoia seed can only be accessed through fire. Only intense heat will open the cone after the fire has passed to allow the release of the seed to then be planted. Only the presence of pain allows for planting and growth to take place. Sequoias become massive mature trees only through the pain of testing by fire.
